Research and related activities:

My main interest has been forest ecology, with emphasis on the plant communities (phytosociology), their dynamics and ecology (especially the relationships to the soil conditions, inter alia content of nutrients). During the 1970s I executed a lot of survey investigations and vegetation mapping (forest, mire and alpine vegetation). In the late 1980s and early 1990s I also did some research in connection with pollution problems (acid rain and impact on the forest soils and vegetation; and in a less degree possible effects of a climatic change). During the late 1990s I participated in the biomass and nutrient studies at Sølendet nature reserve ("The cultural landscape team" headed by professor Asbjørn Moen), and later in local biological diversity mapping projects. Already in my cand.real. thesis (1970) I adopted computerised methods in vegetation ecology and since then I have promoted an efficient and rational use of computer applications in vegetation science, and in the management of herbarium collections. During the 1980s and 1990s I was the main supervisor of three cand.scient. (M.Sc.) students and co-supervisor of four others.
